Polyurethane Elastomers
Polyurethane Elastomers
Polyurethane (PU) elastomers are flexible, durable rubber-like materials made by reacting a polyol (e.g., HTPB or polyester/polyether polyols) with a diisocyanate (e.g., MDI or TDI). The result is a cross-linked network with excellent elasticity, abrasion resistance, and chemical stability.
Polyurethane elastomers are high-performance materials formed by reacting polyols (–OH) with diisocyanates (–NCO) to create urethane linkages (–NH–CO–O–). Their properties can be widely adjusted by selecting different raw materials and formulations.
Material Preparation
•Polyol temperature: 40–60°C
•Isocyanate temperature: 25–45°C
•Moisture content: < 0.05% (very important)
Mixing
•Mixing time: 10–30 seconds (high speed)
•Degassing under vacuum recommended
Molding
•Mold temperature: 50–110°C
•Demold time: 30 min – 24 hours (depending on size)
Post-Curing
•Oven temperature: 80–110°C
•Time: 8–24 hours
Post-curing improves:
✔ Tensile strength
✔ Heat resistance
✔ Dimensional stability
